So I was thinking the other day, with the back ground Traveller offers, it seemed like there would be great opportunity for Gypsy Clans to not only exist, but thrive.

I mean, a social order that supports the "wandering" small ship. Starports where one can land, trade/buy/sell things and then move on. The ability for a family to own and operate a small merchant ship, use it as home and work. Seems like the perfect Gypsy life style to me.

The idea is still stewing in my head, but I would like your input.

Daniel

Certainly sounds like a good idea!

Ok, so I have been playing around with this idea more and think th enormal "Family" would be centered around a single merchant ship. Size and quality reflect their standing in the clan. I was thinking maybe the clan might have a couple of larger ships they use as "meeting places" where the families converge once in a while for various reasons from Marrage arraingments to paying clan tribute.

I was also not sure if I want to have them walk the grey market line or push them even into black market etc.

Anyone have thoughts along these lines?

Daniel

I suppose it would all depend on how far into the Gypsy myth and mystique you want to take it.

I like the idea of the mythic gypsy caravan going from town to town or in this case starport to starport and making trades, a few small cons, and occasionally that big score.

If they get caught then... *shrug* They quietly move on to greener pastures. Make a couple ship registry changes possibly and use a different ship for awhile till the heat blows over.

Could even be that it is a very large clan and some of the group has become totally legit and may even have their own brokerage. The not always legit cousins now have a way to get rid of goods that are hard to trade in the high law level areas.

It really opens all sorts of possibilities.
